Song of the Week #7 What We've Become by Mattersville

Up and coming 5 piece pop-punk band, Mattersville, released their debut album late last year and have just recently been added to Perth Sound and Founds compilation Cd.

One of Mattersvilles’ tracks, What We’ve Become, is a great display of what this band has to offer showing off many different aspects of themselves, from the acoustic intro to the up-beat ending. Mattersville are an impressive band presenting themselves very professionally and producing a high quality sound and what We’ve Become is a very catchy song featuring interesting guitar hooks, upbeat tempos and a few decent solos.

I’m positive we will be hearing a lot more from Mattersville in the future,

Song of the Week #6 - Scream and Silence by Sticky Sweet

Since Sticky Sweet’s EP launch they have skyrocketed, being added to Perth Sound and Founds’ compilation CD, playing a bunch of gigs and just recently getting into Gozzy Rock.

Scream and Silence, the track that was added to the compilation album, in my opinion is a very well written and played song. As you can understand from the title and the lyrics I was told “The song is about the end of the world and how the screams of innocents go unheard”, which is a very strong theme to write a song about. Scream and Silence featured very cool riffs, drums beats, vocals and great dynamics which are always good to hear from a 3 piece band.

Scream and Silence is a great song, and Sticky Sweet in general have impressed me in how they got to where they are now in a matter of less than a year. I look forward to hearing more from these guys.

Song of the week #5 - Morphine by The Dark Woods

The Dark Woods, the four piece alternative/rock/funk band from Perth, has recently released their debut album.

Their album contains 4 tracks and from the moment I heard ‘Morphine’, I was amazed, from the quality of the musicians, and the overall quality of the recording itself. ‘Morphine’ was one of these songs that from the start had me smiling and ‘bopping’ along to that bass line. The Dark Woods list of influences is massive, spanning from artists such as Weezer and Tom Waits yet their influence can still be seen throughout the song by their use of dynamics and creativity with their music.

It’s great to see a local band doing their own thing and putting such creativity into their music and I really do hope to see more of The Dark Woods really soon.

Song of the week #4 - Dance Macabre by New Erotic

New Erotic, a 4 piece alternation punk band has recently released their debut album ‘Jellyfriends’.

‘Dance Macabre’ starts off with a beautiful intro which transitions into the body of the song with ease. ‘Dance Macabre’ adding up to 6 and a half minutes features many different aspects which are blended gracefully, filled with great vocals and great instrumentation with a lot of variety. Deep lyrics that tell a story that is sung with a lot of emotion is great to hear and it can be seen how New Erotic draws from bands such as AFI and Brand New.

Words really can’t describe this song and all its aspects and I can’t wait to hear more. New Erotic have done a great job putting so much emotion to this song, creating the atmosphere along with it.
