Black Birds - Who’s Worrying About You

I’m not sure if “Pop Punk Rock” is actually a genre but it somehow seems to fit nicely with this band. The combinations of instruments and pace of the song initially seemed grunge but upon closer inspection, the lyrics and vocals seem more mainstream radio ‘Pop’ with a beat that was very ‘Soft Rock’.

It reminds me of those artists like “These Kings Wear Crowns” and “Hot Chelle Rae” where they seem to be a watered down Punk band for today’s mainstream listeners. This is not a bad thing and I actually like the song, but I find it difficult to find a place to play them. From a DJs point of view they are too fast for background music and too slow for dancing. This seems to be a song where ‘Live’ they are amazing but captured on CD doesn’t do it justice.

Overall I liked the song. It was well put together, the vocals were smooth and the instruments were well rehearsed and flowed nicely. I would most likely check them out at their next gig and ‘Rock Out’ on the dance floor (Yes DJs can dance, it’s just that we shouldn’t).
